Who we are
Built on worldly knowledge, seafaring wisdom, and a strong passion for the past, present, and future of Bermuda’s youth – Bermuda Sloop Foundation (BSF) was created. Founded in 1998, the brainchild of three sailors was realised in 2006 in the form of a purpose-built training vessel, Spirit of Bermuda, to offer transformational education experiences delivering an award-winning series of character education youth programmes.
What we do
Bermuda Sloop Foundation has been helping to shape the lives of Bermuda’s youth since 2006. Over 8,000 youth between the ages of 11 to 25 have embarked on these educational voyages, sailing around Bermuda, to the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe.
The character education learning environment onboard the Spirit of Bermuda is delivered in an experiential format with a particular focus on:
- Developing positive social skills
- Enhancing social studies
- Applying STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) principles
- Incorporating the cultural and historical significance of Bermuda
Why we do it
Taking a proactive approach to youth development, the goal of BSF has always been, and continues to be, ensuring Bermuda’s youth increase their long-term chances of success. By being immersed in an environment fostering positive behavior, boosting individual resilience, and cultivating critical life skills, young people of Bermuda will be better prepared to meet life’s challenges, overcome adversity with confidence and avoid antisocial behaviour.
